Moscow Beach in North Miami-Dade

In the movie Red Dawn, the so-called Wolverines fight to combat a Russian invasion in America’s Heartland.  If the movie had been shot in North Miami, the Wolverines would have capitulated and gone to the beach, leaving the Russians with large swaths of acreage along Miami-Dade’s Northern reaches.  Little Odessa, Little Moscow, and even Little St. Pete, the Russians have not only invaded, they’ve established a Homestead, literally. The unfamiliar-sounding names can be seen along a stretch of Collins Avenue and East Hallandale Beach Boulevard: Matryoshka Deli Food, Tatiana Club & Restaurant, Kirova Ballet Academy. The owners of these businesses are Russian-speaking professionals catering to Russian-speaking customers, and although there are stark differences in the weather back home, they’re very comfortable in their new environs.
