Lyric Theater in Overtown: Restored, Re-Opened, Ready to Regain Its Glory

The Lyric Theater in Miami might be called Cotton Club South.  Back in the day, it was the spot.  In fact, back in the day, it was the first spot.  Now, the historic Lyric Theater — Miami’s oldest entertainment venue – is trying to get its groove back.  The theater symbolizes a time when Overtown was a bustling cultural hub.  All the top icons of the day, like Duke Ellington, Aretha Franklin, Langston Hughes, and may others thrilled audiences on its stage.  Truth is, it probably won’t be able to compete with the HardRock casino in terms of being able to attract top talent, but it will likely be a nice local venue for a lot of niche acts.   You know, like Bruno Mars.
